Il Consiglio è il principale organo decisionale dell’Unione Europea ed è l’istituzione che rappresenta gli Stati membri in quanto vi si riuniscono i loro ministri. Il Consiglio esercita le funzioni legislative e approva il bilancio dell’UE congiuntamente al Parlamento. Inoltre è responsabile della politica estera e della sicurezza comune, così come della coordinazione delle politiche economiche. E’ anche titolare del potere esecutivo, che solitamente delega alla Commissione.

Ogni sei mesi (a gennaio e a giugno) un nuovo Stato membro assume la presidenza dell’UE. Questa è una funzione essenziale: la presidenza del Consiglio dell’Unione europea gioca un ruolo importante per l’organizzazione delle varie riunioni del Consiglio stesso e svolge una funzione di rappresentanza dell’Unione europea sulla scena internazionale. Ciascuna presidenza possiede un proprio sito web dove si possono trovare le priorità e il programma della presidenza in carica, i comunicati stampa, gli eventi organizzati e diverse informazioni sullo Stato che svolge il ruolo di presidenza. Hungarian Presidency starts with folk, electronic and jazz

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the University of Roma Tor Vergata, in partnership with Eurosduvillage group, is organizing the eighth edition of the Jean Monnet Summer Seminar a high level seminar on the functioning of the European Union addressed to graduate and Phd students as well as young civil servants. The seminar include two teaching modules lasting one week. The first module (4-8 July) will analyze the decision making process of the European Union while the second one (11-15 July) the foreign policy of the European Union.
