BrusselsLeaks

The Wikileaks model is spreading with websites such as Open Leaks or Balkan Leaks. Ex- EU officials and Brussels-based journalists have recently created Brussels Leaks, which, as indicated by its suffix, leaks documents from the European Institutions.

Unlike Wikileaks, however, Brussels Leaks is supposed to act as an intermediary. Instead of making the information directly available to the public, it will be given to « responsible parties ».

The aim of the initiative is to bring transparency to the EU and its bureaucratic, decision-making procedures. The truth is, however, that leaks are already the norm in Brussels, where officials, lobbyists and journalists comment on all EU matters regularly in an informal manner.
