The Opening Ceremony for the EU-China Year of Youth took place on 11th January in Brussels. The Commissioner for Education and Culture, Ms Androulla Vassiliou, officially launched the Year, which aims to “further promot[e] and deepen[] partnership between Europe and China" and is supported by the EU’s ‘Youth in Action’ programme. Flagship events will be held over the course of the year in both Europe and China, many involving EU-China volunteer projects to coincide with and complement the European Year of Volunteering.
