La mauvaise nouvelle
There isn’t any

When compiling The Month, the Bad News category is always the easiest to fill. There are always five or six stories that would fit. Greece is going to leave the Euro. Spain needs a bailout. President Hollande has been in office for all of six months and his popularity has already nosedived. Britain is leaving the EU.

So this month, we’re taking a break. There are a lot of articles on this site about politics and the economy, but ultimately Europe is a state of mind. It is about feeling European, rather than merely French, British, Italian etc. And that, ultimately, is what we strive to promote. A connection between the peoples of different European nations, a connection that exists in spite of differences in languages and culture. A connection that exists maybe in spite of, rather than because of, the political and economic situations. So take a Bad News break, smile, and remember that whatever the future holds, we will continue to aspire to a European State of Mind. It’s where dreams are made of.
